Expanding access to bladder cancer patient information: factsheets available in Italian

The World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition (WBCPC) has expanded its Italian-language resources with the publication of its full series of bladder cancer factsheets, supporting access to reliable, patient-friendly information for Italian-speaking communities.

This work builds on WBCPC’s ongoing collaboration with our member organisation PaLiNUro, whose expertise and local insight have been central to ensuring the factsheets are accurate, accessible and relevant for patients and families in Italy.

Access to clear information remains a key challenge for many people affected by bladder cancer, particularly when resources are not available in their own language. By making these materials available in Italian, WBCPC and PaLiNUro aim to help patients better understand bladder cancer, recognise symptoms, and feel more confident when engaging with healthcare professionals.

Bladder cancer factsheets now available in Italian

The Italian factsheet series includes the following topics:

• What is bladder cancer?
  An overview of bladder cancer, including how it develops in the bladder lining, the main types, and why early diagnosis matters.
• Recognising the symptoms
  Information on the most common warning signs, including blood in the urine, and the symptoms that should prompt people to seek medical advice.
• Understanding the risk factors of bladder cancer
  An overview of factors that may increase the risk of developing bladder cancer, supporting awareness and prevention efforts.
• Understanding medical terms in bladder cancer
  A plain-language guide to the terminology used in diagnosis, treatment and follow-up, helping patients and carers feel more confident during appointments.
• Bladder cancer in women: unique challenges
  An explanation of why symptoms in women can be overlooked, how diagnosis may be delayed, and how treatment can affect fertility, menopause, body image and sexual health.
• Understanding diagnosis and prognosis
  A practical guide to understanding the type, stage and grade of a diagnosis, with key questions to ask your doctor or nurse.
• What is TURBT?
  An explanation of transurethral resection of bladder tumour (TURBT), a common procedure used to diagnose and treat bladder cancer.
• Understanding treatment for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer
  An outline of treatment for non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC), including follow-up tests and long-term monitoring.
• Understanding treatment for muscle-invasive bladder cancer
