IBCG Launches Centre for Patient-Centric Care Initiatives

The International Bladder Cancer Group (IBCG), a global network of experts dedicated to advancing bladder cancer research and care, has launched its new Centre for Patient-Centric Care Initiatives. This initiative aims to explore and advance patient-centred approaches in bladder cancer care.

This innovative initiative brings together leading experts, patients, and advocates to develop strategies that empower patients, personalise treatment, and promote holistic care and wellness. Key focus areas will include shared decision-making, equitable access to care, and the integration of advanced technology to enhance outcomes.

The World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition (WBCPC) is proud to be part of the Advisory Committee for this initiative.

«This initiative highlights the critical importance of placing patients and their families at the centre of bladder cancer care. As a global coalition, we are proud to bring the voices and experiences of our community to this effort, helping to shape meaningful strategies that will improve care and outcomes for all people affected by bladder cancer around the world.

This marks a new step for continued collaboration between the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition and the International Bladder Cancer Group, where more recently we joined the Annual 2024 IBCG Retreat shaping global bladder cancer care. This important event brought together experts from around the world to develop new recommendations for managing bladder cancer. These guidelines help shape clinical decisions for doctors and improve care for people affected by bladder cancer globally.

The Global Bladder Cancer Patient and Carer Survey, conducted by WBCPC, has highlighted the urgent need to improve patient-centric care worldwide. Findings revealed significant gaps in access to supportive care services and survivorship programmes, as well as the need for better integration of patients in shared decision-making processes. These insights will serve as a vital resource for the Centre as it works to address these critical areas and improve the care pathway for people affected by bladder cancer.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting collaboration!
