Dr Lydia Makaroff elected as President of the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition
The World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition Board of Director selects Dr Lydia Makaroff as the President of the organisation, succeeding Ken Bagshaw, who remains on the Board.
Today, the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition is delighted to announce the election of Dr Lydia Makaroff as the new President of the organisation. Lydia succeeds founding President Ken Bagshaw, who has been elected President in June 2019 and was instrumental in the establishment and success of the coalition thus far.
Lydia has been a member of the Board of Directors since the organisation was established in 2019, serving as Vice-President and Treasurer, the two roles she now resigned following her election as President. Lydia has actively contributed to the development and launch of the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition in 2019. Lydia Makaroff, a seasoned cancer patient advocate, serves as the Fight Bladder Cancer charity Chief Executive in the UK and has previously led the European Cancer Patient Coalition as its Executive Director in Brussels.
« I am honoured to be elected as President of this organisation and thankful to Ken for his outstanding leadership as Founding President. I am so excited to be working alongside Ken, the rest of the Board, our patient advisory panel, and our talented staff Alex and Theodoros, in order to help the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition to unite the global bladder cancer patient community and foster the establishment of new bladder cancer patient organisations.

Outgoing President Ken Bagshaw, bladder cancer patient and former Chair of Bladder Cancer Canada, remains a member of the WBCPC Board of Directors and takes up the role of the Treasurer for the remainder of the term until the next General Assembly in 2022.
“It has been my great pleasure and honour contributing to conception, planning and launch of the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition and to have led its Board of Directors for the last 2,5 years. With the organisation now well established, this was an opportune time to step down as the President, and I’m delighted that the Board endorsed Lydia Makaroff to take the reins. Lydia brings the experience, skill, drive and vision to lead the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition to the next level in pursuing its mission.” said outgoing Founding President Ken Bagshaw.
Dr Lydia Makaroff was officially elected President at the WBCPC Board Meeting, which took place on June 17, 2021.
