Bladder Cancer Patient Day in France for a better informed patient

Cancer Vessie France, the WBCPC member organization in France, has joined forces with the French Association of Urology (AFU) to raise bladder cancer awareness in May.

As part of the activities, the organizations have dedicated a full day towards better-informed patients. The Patient Day programme, which took place on May 24 in Paris, focused on helping bladder cancer patients and their loved ones to better understand the bladder cancer care pathway. During the day, urologists explained the care pathway with reference to medical recommendations, including the latest guidelines for the treatment of bladder cancer and the standard of care in France. Experts provided an update on research and therapeutic progress. They answered many questions in the audience in the room and online.

Cancer Vessie France shared with the audience the scope of their work in France and how patients can find support and reliable bladder cancer information through patient support and advocacy organizations. The day also showcases various ways how both organizations collaborate with each other and many external stakeholders across the country.

The World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition was encouraged by the collaboration of Cancer Vessie France and AFU. We were delighted to join the Bladder Cancer Patient Day, where WBCPC was represented by Alex Filicevas, Executive Director and Marie Magenhann Cueto, Communications & Community Engagement Assistant.

In France, bladder cancer affects between 13,000 and 20,000 people each year and is responsible for over 5,000 deaths. This is why both patient advocates and urologists make collaborative efforts to raise awareness about the disease in France.
