Cancer Survivors Day – Celebrating strength, raising awareness
Each year on 1 June, we mark Cancer Survivors Day to honour the strength, resilience, and experiences of people who have faced cancer.
At the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition, we recognise and celebrate the many individuals around the world who have been diagnosed with bladder cancer and continue to live with or beyond the disease. Their journeys remind us of the importance of early detection, access to timely care, and long-term support.
Bladder cancer is highly treatable when detected early, with a 90% survival rate in early stages. Yet, many people still face barriers to diagnosis and care, particularly women, who are more likely to be misdiagnosed before receiving the correct treatment.
Our work aims to change this by listening to the voices of survivors, highlighting the importance of early diagnosis, and promoting patient-centred care at every step.
Our 5 Women, 5 Experiences campaign shared the stories of women who faced bladder cancer. Their words reflect both the emotional and practical challenges they encountered and the strength it takes to move forward.
Here’s what we know:
-
Early diagnosis is key to improving survival and quality of life.
-
Survivor stories help reduce stigma and raise awareness.
-
Greater public awareness means more people get diagnosed earlier.
This Cancer Survivors Day, we honour everyone who has faced bladder cancer, from diagnosis through treatment and into survivorship. Their courage inspires progress every day.
We invite our member organisations and community to join us in sharing this message. We’ve prepared social media resources to help you raise awareness and celebrate the strength of cancer survivors.
