Trainee opportunity in Global Health Advocacy

Location: Brussels, Belgium
Contract: 6-month Convention d’immersion professionnelle (CIP)
Start date: Around 1 March 2025

About the organisation

The World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition (WBCPC) is a global umbrella organisation bringing together bladder cancer patient organisations from around the world. We work to ensure that people affected by bladder cancer have access to better information, support, care, and advocacy—no matter where they live.

Our coalition currently spans 17 member organisations across 14 countries, connecting patient voices globally and working with healthcare professionals, policymakers, and international stakeholders to improve outcomes for bladder cancer patients and their families.

We are now looking for a motivated and curious Programme Support Trainee to join our team in Brussels and support our work across communications, policy, events, member relations, and operations.

About the role

This is a mixed-skill, full-time traineeship offering hands-on exposure across the organisation’s main work programmes. While the role is designed to be broad, there will be opportunities to deepen your involvement in areas that match your interests and strengths.

You can expect an approximate time distribution of:

• 20% Policy & Advocacy
• 20% Communications
• 20% Event management
• 20% Member relations
• 20% Administrative support

This distribution may vary depending on organisational priorities and ongoing projects.

The role is based in Brussels, with flexible working arrangements and at least one working day per week in the office. Occasional travel may be required for events or congresses.

What will you do?

Policy & Advocacy support
You will support background research and monitoring on health policy and advocacy topics relevant to bladder cancer, and assist with engagement activities involving policymakers, healthcare professionals, and international organisations.

Communications support
You will help develop content for social media, newsletters, and the website, support the implementation of campaigns such as Bladder Cancer Awareness Month, and contribute to blog posts, articles, and summaries of WBCPC activities.

Event management
You will assist in the planning and delivery of events, including the World Bladder Cancer Patient Forum, and provide operational and technical support during virtual or in-person events.

Member relations
You will support communication with WBCPC member organisations, assist with onboarding new members, help maintain membership databases, and contribute to capacity-building activities such as training sessions and shared campaigns.

Administrative support
You will support internal coordination by helping organise meetings, prepare agendas, take minutes, maintain organisational documents and contact lists, track project timelines, and assist the Executive Director and team with day-to-day operational tasks.

Who are we looking for?

You are someone who is organised, proactive, and interested in global health and patient advocacy. You bring:

• University-level education or equivalent experience
• Strong written and spoken English
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset
• Willingness to build skills across different organisational functions
• Interest in health, public health, and non-communicable diseases, including cancer
• Ability to manage a varied workload and take initiative
• Eligibility to work in Belgium without requiring a visa

What we offer

You will join a small, supportive, and collaborative team that values learning, initiative, and shared success.

This traineeship offers the opportunity to:
• Gain insight into all functions of an international non-profit organisation
• Develop understanding of cancer policy, advocacy, and patient engagement
• Contribute to high-profile international events
• Attend EU and international meetings and build a professional network

Contract & benefits
