Bringing bladder cancer to the forefront: our Bladder Cancer Awareness Month 2025 Report

Each May, we unite as a global community to shine a light on bladder cancer. Bladder Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) is an important moment to increase understanding of a disease that remains too often overlooked. With 1.9 million people living with bladder cancer and over 600,000 newly diagnosed each year, awareness and early detection are critical.

A campaign rooted in action

In 2025, our “Feeling Unsure? Get Checked” campaign continued to challenge the misinterpretation of symptoms, urging people to pause, look again, and act early. The Unsure Icon remained a powerful visual symbol, prompting people to reconsider symptoms like blood in urine and seek medical advice.

To make the message interactive, we brought back the Spot the Drop game, available in 16 languages. Players had to react quickly to visual cues, mirroring the importance of acting fast when symptoms appear. The game drew over 3,400 players worldwide, sparking conversations about early detection.

This year, for the first time, our campaign visuals were available in 26 languages, breaking language barriers and ensuring our message reached more people and places than ever before.

Expanding our reach

The impact of BCAM 2025 was felt across the globe:
✔️ Over 12.5 million people reached on social media
✔️ More than 150,000 social media interactions, showing strong engagement
✔️ Campaign hashtags like #BladderCancerMonth25, #UnsureIcon, and #SpotTheDrop used over 5,000 times
✔️ Resources used across 64 countries

To support this global effort, we created a comprehensive toolkit of materials: posters for healthcare settings, a ready-to-use social media kit, and an animated video available in six languages. These resources made it easier than ever for people and organisations to join the campaign and amplify its impact in their communities.

Strengthening advocacy worldwide

At the heart of BCAM are the patient groups driving change on the ground. Through our BCAM Grant Programme, launched in 2022, we continue to support impactful local initiatives, especially in low- and middle-income countries.

In 2025, we received a record 47 applications and awarded five grants to organisations in Colombia, Kenya, Nigeria, Nepal, and Senegal. Their inspiring campaigns ranged from youth-led awareness drives and podcasts to football matches, fashion festivals, and market outreach, all breaking the silence around bladder cancer and sparking life-saving conversations.

Looking ahead

Bladder cancer awareness does not stop in May. Every shared post, every conversation, and every local initiative brings us closer to a world where no one faces this disease alone.

We are grateful to our members, partners, and sponsors for making this year’s campaign our most global yet.
