Connecting with urology professionals at EAU24
Our secretariat team and several WBCPC Board Members attended the European Association of Urology 2024 (EAU24) Congress in Paris, France which took place during 5-8 April. During this event, we hosted a booth where we invited urologists, allied healthcare professionals, patients and others in attendance to learn more about the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition and our member organisations.
During the congress, we had the opportunity to talk with visitors from different countries about the results of our Global Bladder Cancer Patient & Carer Survey as well as our upcoming campaign for Bladder Cancer Awareness Month. We encouraged everyone to get involved by using the many resources we have prepared this year.
These conversations naturally progressed to highlight the urgent need for more bladder cancer patient organisations around the world. Our survey showed that 53% of respondents contacted a patient group for support and received the information they needed. At our booth, we shared how our Start-up guide, which is available in several languages, can help doctors, patients, and caregivers connect and start a local bladder cancer patient support group. This guide offers many ideas and resources from our community, making it easier for new groups to start and support those affected by bladder cancer.
WBCPC President Dr Lydia Makaroff Co-chaired and joined several panels, presenting on the topic of Empowering patient care with AI.
We have further connected with urologists as we took part in the first EAU Fun Run. This new 5K run was organised with the goal of raising funds to support research projects by the Association Française d’Urologie(AFU) and The British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS).
