WBCPC presents at Russian Cancer Patient Congress

WBCPC was invited to speak at the Russian Cancer Patient Congress, organised by the Zdravstvuy Association of Cancer Patients, on October 23, 2025. The congress brought together patient advocates, clinicians and civil society representatives from across the region to discuss shared challenges in cancer care and highlight opportunities for stronger patient involvement in improving healthcare delivery and outcomes.

During the session, WBCPC Executive Director Alex Filicevas introduced its growing international network and outlined how global collaboration strengthens the voice of people affected by bladder cancer. The presentation emphasised the important role of patient-generated evidence in shaping policy, assessing health system performance and improving the support and information available to patients and their families. High-quality care was presented as a combination of timely diagnosis, guideline-based treatment, multidisciplinary support and equitable access to innovation.

WBCPC also shared insights from international initiatives, including work to map inequalities in access to innovation and understand the clinical trial landscape across Europe. These examples illustrated how patient organisations can use data and lived experience to advocate for meaningful improvements in care.

«Patient-generated evidence is an essential driver of better cancer care. When patient organisations collect and elevate real experiences, we create a clearer understanding of needs, gaps and opportunities, helping health systems deliver more timely, equitable and effective support for those living with cancer.

Alex Filicevas, Executive Director of the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition.

WBCPC remains committed to working with partners internationally to strengthen patient-centred cancer care, build shared learning and expand the use of patient-reported data to improve outcomes.
