Cancer patient organisations around the world have been a key point of contact for vulnerable people, and this has increased dramatically as COVID-19 has spread far and wide. This report captures the impact of the pandemic on these patient organisations.
Keep in touch with your patients. They are fearful and so are we but we offer a service and, until we can no longer deliver that service we must be the light that shine for them.
This year, World Bladder Cancer Awareness Month in May 2020 was unlike any other. Despite the challenges presented by the global pandemic, together we've helped to continue the conversation about bladder cancer and help the world become more #BladderCancerAware
Today the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition (WBCPC) has launched a newly developed start-up guide that will provide information and support to bladder cancer patient organisations – helping them grow and establish themselves using best-practice knowledge gained from other bladder cancer patient organisations.
One of the reasons that Andrew Winterbottom helped to create World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition was to help patients in other countries set up their own patient organisation. He would be so proud to see this toolkit launched today.
It is with great sadness that today we remember the passing of Andrew Winterbottom one year ago on this date. Andrew was a strong and passionate patient advocate in bladder cancer worldwide; and a friend and ally to many in the bladder cancer community. To honour his life’s mission, a start-up guide for bladder cancer patient organisations has been launched on this day by WBCPC.
I am thrilled to join the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition at this important time for the organisation and I appreciate the trust the Board has placed in me as Executive Director. Building on a strong base of founding members, together with the World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition Board, I look forward to fostering a strong global community of people affected by bladder cancer, uniting the vision and goals of bladder cancer patient organisations to ensure the best possible outcomes for patients across the world.
For the first time in history, people affected by bladder cancer – the 10th most common cancer in the world – will have a voice in the newly established World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition. This marks the first global bladder cancer umbrella organisation.
Treatment, research and support for bladder cancer patients varies widely across the globe and even within countries. It’s critical that we mobilise bladder cancer patient organisations across the world to help ensure the best possible outcomes for patients.
