WBCPC co-signs Call to Action on early cancer care
The World Bladder Cancer Patient Coalition (WBCPC) co-signed Mission Early’s “Call to Action for Better Early Cancer Care,” joining organisations from across the cancer community in urging policymakers to strengthen early detection, diagnosis and treatment of cancer. The initiative was highlighted during a policy event held at the European Parliament on March 17, 2026.
By adding its signature, WBCPC joined a coalition of stakeholders calling for stronger political commitment to early cancer care. The Call to Action encourages governments and health authorities to ensure that early detection, timely diagnosis and prompt treatment are prioritised within national and international health policies and cancer strategies.
For WBCPC, supporting this initiative reflects the importance of ensuring that people affected by bladder cancer benefit from earlier diagnosis and faster access to appropriate care. Like many cancers, bladder cancer outcomes are closely linked to how early the disease is detected and how quickly treatment can begin.
The Call to Action outlines several priorities for policymakers, including:
- Improving access to screening and early detection programmes
- Updating diagnostic guidelines to reflect new technologies and evidence
- Ensuring timely access to treatment once a diagnosis is made
It also highlights the need for stronger data collection through national and regional cancer registries to better monitor diagnosis patterns, treatment access and inequalities in cancer care across countries. Another key recommendation is that governments integrate early cancer care more explicitly into National Cancer Control Plans, including clear targets and regular monitoring of progress.
The event at the European Parliament brought together policymakers, healthcare experts and civil society organisations to discuss how these recommendations can support stronger cancer policies and improve early cancer care.
By co-signing this Call to Action, WBCPC reinforces its commitment to ensuring that people affected by bladder cancer are diagnosed earlier, receive timely treatment and benefit from equitable access to high-quality care.
